Evolution has no foresight

Natural selection can produce adaptation without planning for a future goal.

Heritable variation affects survival and reproduction in particular environments. Across generations, selection can change the distribution of traits. Mutation supplies variation without anticipating an organism's needs; drift, gene flow, and constraints also shape evolution.

For example: Antibiotic exposure can favor resistant variants already present or arising in a population. Bacteria do not decide to invent resistance because they need it.

Keep in mind: Evolution is not a universal ladder toward perfection. Fitness depends on context, and biological success does not establish what humans ought to value.
